Proceeds from the race go to The American Heart Association, a national agency dedicated to creating healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. The 2020 Impact Goal of the American Heart Association is, to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20%, while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20%.
Heart disease is our nation’s #1 killer, causing 40.6% of all deaths more than the next four leading causes of death combined. Stroke is our nation’s #4 killer and the leading cause of serious, long term disability. In order to achieve their 2020 impact goal, the American Heart Association must improve the number of people who understand the link between their overall health and their risk of heart disease and stroke.
